On the 19th of April 1981 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, Alie Christensen gave birth to a cute con. He had blonde hair and dark blue eyes. Can you guess, whom I am talking about? Hayden Christensen, a star of his generation was born. The boy spent the first three years in British Columbia, until he moved with his family to Thornhill, Ontario.
His family, that were Alie, his father David, as well as his siblings Tove and Hejsa. Today he has another sister, Kayleen, but she was not born yet at the time they moved.
Hayden's sister Hejsa was doing a commercial for the famous crisps "Pringles" and afterwards went to an agency, joined by her entire family. Everybody was so excited about Hejsa, that nobody looked after young Hayden, so he walked around along the halls... and then he was discovered by a talent agent. "They asked me if I wanted to do some commercials and I said sure!" Lucky we are that the agent had eyes for real talent.
After that he appeared in some commercials, as well as in theater and television, but in 1993, at the age of 12, Hayden climbed a big step on his stairway to success: He got a continous role in the TV series "Family Passion".
In succession, he got roles in some famous movie productions and acted next to famous actors, for instance in "Harrison Bergeron" with Sean Astin and in "The Virgin Suicides" along with Josh Hartnett and Kirsten Dunst. To get more information about his career, please check the Filmography.
Besides, he did not give up school, as some other young actor do. Hayden attended Unionville High School in Ontario until he graduated in summer 1999. His favorite hobby has ever been playing blues or jazz on the piano, but he is very athletic as well and practises swimming, skateboarding, plays basketball, soccer and so on. This means, that he pretty much continued having a normal life after becoming a young star. But that still was not his big breakthrough yet.
In the year 2000, Hayden got another continous role in the TV series "Higher Grounds". He displayed his big talent in the role of the teenager Scott Barringer, who was raped by his mother and turns to drugs. Although Hayden played the most popular character on "Higher Grounds", the show was put on jeopardy to be cancelled. Hayden had to think about his further career chances and then he got THE contract.
You probably know what I am talking about. George Lucas offered him on May 12th 2000 the role of Anakin Skywalker in "Star Wars Episode II and III". The director felt that Hayden was young, enthusiastic and had unworn-out talent. The chemistry between him and co-star Natalie Portman, who plays the role of Padmé Amidala, was just perfect and he also got along great with Ewan McGregor, alias Obi-Wan Kenobi. With this decision, George Lucas showed once again, that he has enough courage to pick a pretty unknown actor, giving Hayden a chance, while turning down names such as Leonardo diCaprio, Jonathan Jackson and Johnny Depp. This was his big breakthrough. The one breakthrough that made him famous all over the world as the man who would become Darth Vader!
